1. NAIL PREP (this step is VITAL)
Complete a thorough dry manicure. Gently push back the cuticle from the nail plate and remove all non-living tissue using a sharp cuticle tool and nippers if required. Shape the free edge into the desired shape using a 240-grit zebra file. Using the same file (not a buffer), lightly etch the nail plate to remove all surface shine. Apply a generous amount of Prep & Dehydrate to a lint-free wipe and thoroughly scrub the nail plate, sidewalls, and underneath the free edge. Perfect prep is essential for long-lasting retention – any remaining dust, oil, or dead skin (no matter how small) may cause lifting.
2. BASE COAT APPLICATION
Apply your chosen Magpie Base Coat, ensuring the free edge is fully sealed. There must be no product touching the cuticle area or sidewalls. Use the Sir Tool to clean up if necessary. Cure for 60 seconds in your lamp.
3. SCULPT IT STRUCTURE
Apply a thin layer of SCULPT IT and do not cure – this will act as your slip layer. Place a larger bead of hard gel onto the nail at the apex location. Using your brush, gently guide the product into place. Keep the cuticle area neat and precise without touching the skin, then feather the remaining product down towards the free edge. SCULPT IT is stronger than builder gel, so less product is required to achieve strength. For longer or weaker nails, ensure the correct structure and apex placement are created. Cure fully once satisfied with the structure.
4. REFINEMENT & FINISH
Remove the inhibition layer using Prep & Dehydrate on a lint-free wipe. Use a new wipe for each hand. Finish file and buff to refine if needed. Apply your chosen gel colour, top coat, and cuticle oil.
